Douglas E. Clanin was born in Anderson, Indiana in 1940. He was the son of Howard P. and Sarah Elizabeth "Liz" (Weatherford) Clanin. Howard was the son of Arthur and Clara (Rissiek) Clanin. The Howard Clanin family also included Greg, Doug's younger brother. They lived in Anderson, Indiana where Mr. Clanin worked as a foreman at Delco Remy.
